Why embrace the Mediterranean lifestyle? Because it's not a "Die-it"...it's a "Live-it!" Take (back) control of your life with a freedom that steers way from the "don't do this" or "don't do that" mindset! This is your journey and eating healthy is a way of honoring your beautiful body! Build confidence in yourself to choose wisely and eat mindfully. As shown in the food pyramid, keeping active (which includes quality family life) is the base of the pyramid. Keeping active is key...and that means living! Put on some music while you cook, and dance! Learning to see food "as energy" vs comfort is key and will help explain why carbohydrates, such as rice and pasta is listed at the base. We were meant to "keep moving"...joyfully! Vegetables, fruits, nuts, and legumes are enjoyed on a regular basis as well as olive oil, cheese and yogurts. Set yourself up with success by getting excited about eating toward good health, and then learning to identify just how amazing your body feels when enjoying nutrient dense foods on a regular basis!
Once your body has become accustomed to eating fresh, healthy foods, you will begin to learn to identify what optimal health "feels" like. Should you desire a guideline to aid with weight management, we suggest the free App "My Fitness Pal" to help you keep track of your caloric in-take vs out-put. Begin with a mindful approach toward eating with an attitude of joyful living and a thankful heart:
1) Eat what you want when truly hungry (vs possibly being thirsty). Your body usually tells you exactly what it is needing.
2) When eating, taste each bite, eating mindfully.
3) Observe once you are full. Stop eating when you are full.
Live life with passion and keep moving!
